Powered by the Widewail Index, built on approximately 20 million automotive reviews and connected to dealership operating data, Customer Clarity reads a store’s customer reviews against its local market and tells managers what changed, why it matters, and what to fix first.
BURLINGTON, Vt., September 8, 2026 — Widewail, the automotive customer intelligence platform, today launched Customer Clarity™, the customer intelligence capability inside the Widewail platform. Customer Clarity interprets customer sentiment at scale, sets it against the local market, and returns a continuous, plain-language read on the customer experience along with a ranked list of what to fix first.
Built for automotive franchise dealerships, multi-rooftop dealer groups, and OEMs, Customer Clarity connects a dealership’s customer reviews to its Dealer Management System (DMS) data, tying each review to the repair order or sale behind it and to the employees who served that customer. Where reputation tools report what customers said, Customer Clarity explains what it means, pairs it with operational context, and recommends the fixes that matter most.
“Dealers have been told for years that the goal was more reviews and a higher star rating. That was never the whole story,” said Cuyler Owens, Chief Executive Officer at Widewail. “The reviews your customers leave are the most honest record you have of what is working and what is broken. Reputation tools can tell you what your customers said. Customer Clarity tells you what it means, and how to use it to run the store.”
Turning Customer Feedback into Weekly Operational Priorities
Rather than waiting weeks to understand why a Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) score moved, Customer Clarity gives the management team a continuous view benchmarked against nearby same-brand dealerships and the U.S. automotive industry, delivered as a weekly email pulse and a map view of how the store compares to its market. Managers see not only what is happening in the store, but why, and what to correct first.
“Every operator knows the feeling of being too close to their own store to see its problems,” added Melissa Terrell, Chief Operating Officer at Widewail. “Your customers see them clearly, and they are telling you every day. We built Customer Clarity to read all of that at once and hand a manager the one thing to fix first.”
Connecting Customer Feedback to the People Behind It
Customers name a dealership employee in only about one in ten reviews. By matching review content, reviewer name, and timestamp against DMS records, Customer Clarity ties roughly five times more reviews to the staff behind the experience, including the parts staff, porters, and lot attendants customers describe often and rarely name. Managers use it to recognize the people customers single out, to coach with specific customer evidence rather than impressions, and to see whether training changed what customers actually experience.
Customer Clarity organizes customer feedback into the four categories dealers manage to: staff, wait times, price, and communication. Those sit on top of the 25 pillars of a quality retail automotive experience that Widewail’s automotive-trained models read in every review, so the interpretation reflects how a service complaint differs from a sales complaint differs from an F&I complaint. Benchmarks are powered by the Widewail Index, the cross-dealer benchmark for automotive, built on approximately 20 million dealership reviews and growing by about 400,000 a month. The DMS connection is live through CDK Global via Fortellis at launch.
