Founded in 2001, SEP emerged during the early days of search engine optimization, when platforms such as AltaVista and Yahoo dominated online search and Google was still in its early stages. What began as a small operation in a wood-panelled basement grew into a leading Canadian search and digital marketing agency, serving thousands of businesses over the past 25 years.
The anniversary celebration brought together employees, clients, partners and members of the local community. Pickering Mayor Kevin Ashe joined the celebration to recognize the company’s milestone and longstanding connection to Durham Region.

From the early days of Google to today’s increasingly complex search landscape, SEP has helped clients improve their visibility and reach audiences online.
Today, the industry is undergoing another major transformation as artificial intelligence changes how people search for and discover information. SEP is helping clients adapt to this shift by developing strategies designed to increase visibility across AI-powered search and discovery platforms, including ChatGPT. The company is also expanding its work in AI SEO and AI advertising as businesses look for new ways to reach customers through emerging technologies.
“Search has changed dramatically over the past 25 years, but our purpose has remained the same: helping businesses get found and turn that visibility into real results,” said Wisam Abdulaziz, President of Search Engine People. “We were there as Google transformed search, and we’re excited to be at the forefront of the next transformation as AI changes how people discover businesses and information.”
