Tenn. (WBBJ) – Back in 1991, General Cable was a fledgling plant on its way to bigger and better things. In 2018, General Cable was purchased by Italy-based Prysmian
In 2022, Prysmian Jackson received an investment of $30,000,000 to transition from copper cable to fiber optic manufacturing. Now in 2026, the same plant is receiving an investment of $100,000,000 to drastically upscale production.
“We’re situated on 44 acres in the Jackson-Madison County Industrial Park, and we’re going to fill it up. We’re going to take this building all the way to the tree line. We’re going to piggyback some of the operational flow so that it’s more of a straight shot, so we’ll have the best flow in the cable optical business,” says Chris Trammel, plant manager.
Trammel expects that the expansion will double the plant’s production once completed.
Executives from across the globe came in to speak. Prysmian North America C.E.O. Andrea Pirondini and C.O.O Paul Furtado both came in to speak, as well as guests from the TVA and TNECD. Madison County mayor AJ Massey was also a guest speaker along with Prysmian customers who gave testimony to what their product has done.
Trammel explains the impact this investment means for Jackson, “Really, it’s life is what it is. It’s future. It’s many years of continued production and stability.”
At the ceremony, Prysmian Jackson honored six employees who have been employed by the plant for its entire 35-year run thus far.
The expansion is currently expected to be completed by the second half of 2028, and once completed, the expansion is expected to bring roughly 100 new jobs to the region.
Prysmian Jackson supplies much of the region with ‘last-mile’ high-speed internet cables.
