LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —The city of Henderson has approved an $8 million investment to upgrade and renovate its Animal Protection Services facility.
City council members voted in favor of the funding this week, saying it will enhance the care provided to animals in the community.
“These improvements represent our continued commitment to protecting animals and supporting the dedicated employees and volunteers who serve them,” Mayor Michelle Romero said in a statement. “This investment will allow Animal Protection Services to provide a safer, more efficient and more modern facility for the animals and residents who rely on these services.”
With the funding, the city will add new dog and cat quarantine areas, a dedicated dog isolation area, and a new isolation play yard. The city also plans to replace kennels, improve the sewer system, and install new dog and cat impound rooms.
Upgrades are coming to the medical facilities as well. This includes a medical suite nearly twice as large as the current space, and a new recovery suite connected directly to the medical area.
More office space will be added by repurposing an existing city facility for Animal Protection Officers and the Public Response Team
