In Everett, meanwhile, City Hall is closed through Thursday, with some services available at the Connolly Center at 90 Chelsea St. during the shutdown.
It is unclear at this time if the two incidents are related in any way.
Schools in Springfield are expected to reopen Monday, with Friday serving as a professional development day for teachers.
“Our priority is making sure that when our students return, our schools are prepared to welcome them back safely and continue providing the education and support they need,” Superintendent Sonia Dinnall said in a statement shared by the district. “We know these unexpected changes have created challenges for our families and staff. We are grateful for their patience as our teams continue working around the clock to address this incident and prepare our schools to reopen.”
The district added that more information would be posted to its Facebook page in the coming days.
“Schools will reopen when we are assured nurses have access to the vital student medical records they need,” the district said in an FAQ on Tuesday.
Everett Mayor Robert Van Campen addressed residents in a video shared by the city on Wednesday afternoon, explaining that through Thursday, the temporary City Hall at the Connolly Center would be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide services, including the treasurer, collector, assessor, city clerk, engineering, auditing, procurement, inspectional services and housing assessment.
“The Connolly Center is a temporary solution during a challenging situation, but it allows us to continue serving residents while this work is underway,” he said.
It is not clear if the issues in Everett and Springfield are related. Officials in both cities said they are investigating the scope of the impact.
