Cambodia is intensifying efforts to expand digital trade and improve the competitiveness of local businesses as the country’s e-commerce revenue is projected to increase from an estimated $1.1 billion in 2025 to $1.8 billion by 2029.
Commerce Minister Cham Nimul outlined the government’s priorities while opening the third Cambodia Digital Trade Forum and Online Expo in Phnom Penh on September 11. The three-day event, being held from September 11-13, is focused on advancing Cambodia’s digital trade ecosystem towards 2030.
The forum brings together government representatives, development partners, private-sector stakeholders, entrepreneurs and international participants to discuss opportunities and challenges facing the country’s digital economy.
Nimul said the government wants to build a digital trade environment that is trusted, efficient and inclusive, while improving productivity, market access and competitiveness for Cambodian businesses. Particular attention is being given to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), rural businesses and women-led enterprises.
The minister said stronger digital infrastructure and an appropriate regulatory framework would be essential to support the continued development of e-commerce and digital trade.
The Ministry of Commerce is working on a Cambodia Trade Policy Framework towards 2030 and a Digital Trade Strategy for 2025-2030. It is also collaborating with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to develop regulations covering e-commerce intermediaries and service providers.
The government also plans to expand CambodiaTrade.com, with the platform expected to provide local businesses with greater access to digital markets and help them reach potential customers beyond Cambodia.
The Cambodia Digital Trade Forum was first launched in 2024 and became a standalone event in 2025. Its expansion this year reflects the government’s broader efforts to develop the country’s digital trade ecosystem and help domestic businesses participate more effectively in online commerce.
