A man armed with a knife demanding money from bank employees was fatally shot by a customer Monday morning, Cedar Hill Police say.
According to police, officers were called to the Chase Bank on the 200 block of North U.S. Highway 67 Service Road at about 9 a.m. for a robbery in progress.

When officers arrived, they found a man in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound. Police provided first aid, and the man was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Investigators learned that the armed man entered the bank with a knife and was demanding money from employees. At some point during the incident, a customer pulled out a gun and shot the man. The injured man ran from the bank and was located by police officers outside.
Cedar Hill Police said the customer who fired their weapon remained at the bank and was cooperating with authorities. It’s unclear if the customer will face any charges in connection with the shooting.
In Texas, adults in legal possession of a gun are generally permitted to carry it inside banks, provided the bank has not prohibited them, and they are generally justified in using their weapon if they feel they are defending someone facing death or serious injury.
Police officials said no shots were fired by police officers and that there were no significant injuries to bank employees, customers, witnesses, or officers reported.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and is being done by the Cedar Hill Police Department and the Dallas office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
