The new migration capability preserves an organization’s existing Airbyte workspace, including sources, destinations, connections, schedules, stream configurations, and incremental synchronization checkpoints. Airbyte Cloud continues syncing data exactly from the point where the prior self-managed deployment was stopped.
Rather than recreating every connector and reprocessing months or years of historical data, customers can migrate production environments while maintaining incremental synchronization state and continuing to write to the same destination warehouse.

This isn’t a push to move anyone off open-ams should keep running it.”
The new Airbyte migration capability and service removes the biggest barrier faced by organizations wanting to move to Airbyte Cloud which is maintaining their existing pipelines without forcing expensive and time-consuming historical re-syncs.
Unlike traditional migration approaches, the new service preserves the components that matter most for production data pipelines:
- Complete workspace configuration;
- Sources, destinations, and connections;
- Stream selections and synchronization modes;
- Sync schedules;
- Incremental cursor state and checkpoints;
- Existing destination warehouse data.
Because customer data remains in the existing warehouse, organizations avoid duplicate data loading, warehouse compute charges, API rate-limit issues, and lengthy historical backfills. During migration, connections remain inactive until customers approve final activation, preventing duplicate writes and ensuring a controlled transition.
Many data integration platforms require organizations to perform complete historical synchronization after migration. For large production environments, that process can consume days of engineering effort while generating substantial API usage and cloud warehouse costs.
Now, Airbyte eliminates this requirement by transferring incremental synchronization checkpoints directly into Airbyte Cloud. Instead of starting from the beginning, production pipelines resume from their most recent synchronization point, allowing incremental replication to continue immediately after cutover.
The result is lower migration risk, reduced operational cost, and significantly faster time to value.
