It’s no secret that AI has changed the way we work, but more changes are still to come. Nearly three in four CEOs in anIDC surveyexpect AI agents to report to employees within the next five years, ingraining these agents in everyday workflows. This could mean big changes for data analytics, especially when it comes to business intelligence (BI) and customer relationship management (CRM), saysMegha Kumar, research VP, analytics and AI, IDC.
“Business intelligence and analytics teams are generally short-staffed,” Kumar explained to No Jitter in an email. “AI agents can help with data preparation and quality monitoring, query analysis, anomaly detection, and the generation of proactive insights and alerts.”
AI agents allow businesses and customers to query data in natural language through collaboration platforms like Teams or Slack. Kumar adds that this will reduce dependency on data and analytics teams, as well as context switching.
“[AI agents] will drive decision velocity as teams get access to insights as and when they need it. In some cases, AI agents may even make recommendations based on the analysis they provide.”
However, concerns around AI use still exist, with 46% of respondents in anIDC/SAS surveyreporting AI trust issues. These issues mainly revolve around poor data infrastructure, unstandardized data governance and fragmented pipelines
Executing recommendations given by AI agents still depends on humans, Kumar says. Organizations still need to ensure AI agents provide the correct, context-relevant responses.
“Trust in AI agents’ responses will be critical,” Kumar adds. “This can be achieved by ensuring that the responses provided by the AI agents are explainable and auditable. As it stands, AI literacy is still lagging, with only 29% of organizations providingregular trainingaccording toBoomi.
