Egypt, Africa’s second-largest economy, is among the countries featured in Henley & Partners’ 2026 global ranking of citizenship-by-investment programmes, with its citizenship-by-investment route starting at $250,000.
Egypt is among a select group of countries featured in Henley & Partners’ 2026 Residence and Citizenship Programs report, which examines investment migration programmes around the world. The country is listed alongside jurisdictions including Austria, Argentina, Jordan, Malta and St. Kitts and Nevis.
Egypt’s programme allows foreign nationals to qualify for citizenship through four investment options. The cheapest requires a $250,000 non-refundable contribution to the state’s public treasury.

Applicants can alternatively invest $300,000 in qualifying government-owned real estate, put $350,000 into a local business alongside a $100,000 contribution to the state, or make a $500,000 bank deposit, which can be recovered in Egyptian pounds after three years without interest.
The Egyptian government says applications are processed through a specialised citizenship-by-investment unit, with citizenship granted within approximately six to 12 months.
The programme is part of a broader global market in which wealthy individuals use investment migration to obtain alternative citizenship or residence rights. Henley & Partners describes citizenship by investment as a legal route through which qualifying individuals can obtain citizenship by making a government-approved economic contribution.

Egypt’s inclusion is notable given the size of its economy. With a GDP of about $429.65 billion, it ranks behind only South Africa among African economies, while its location gives it a strategic position linking Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
For global investors, the attraction is therefore not simply the $250,000 entry price. Egyptian citizenship offers visa-free access to 49 countries while giving investors citizenship in one of Africa’s largest economies
