Specialist Mortgage Group, the Cardiff-based group behind Y3S Loans, Y3S Bridging and Commercial and Chase Blue Loans, has integrated Curvestone AI into its customer relationship management (CRM) system to support mortgage advice and quality-control processes.
The platform connects directly to the group’s existing CRM through an application programming interface (API), reviewing call transcripts, emails, WhatsApp messages, text messages, credit files and applicant information against internal policies as cases progress.
Four checks are currently live, covering lender document requirements, customer vulnerability assessments, Land Registry reports and advice suitability.
The advice suitability assessment evaluates each case against more than 100 validation points, with reports taking approximately five minutes to complete and providing supporting evidence for each finding.
Advisers retain responsibility for final decisions, while assessments and outcomes are recorded for audit purposes and incorporated into the group’s monthly management information and annual Consumer Duty reporting.
Y3S has carried out quality-control checks on 100% of its cases for almost a decade, with the integration intended to maintain this level of oversight as the business grows without a corresponding increase in staffing.
The deployment follows the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) distribution review of the second charge mortgage market, which focused on advice suitability rather than eligibility alone.
In one case identified shortly after deployment, the platform highlighted a customer’s reference to a recent bereavement during an earlier conversation, allowing the adviser to consider whether additional support or time was needed.
Dawid Kotur (pictured), founder and CEO at Curvestone AI, said: “Y3S already checks every case, which puts them ahead of much of the market.
“Together we’ve made that oversight consistent, evidenced and fast, built on their own policies and running inside the system their team already uses. We look forward to extending the work as the group scales.”
Barney Drake, CEO at Specialist Mortgage Group, said: “Before Curvestone, vulnerability assessment was done at adviser level, and ensuring consistency across 40 to 50 advisers was far more challenging.
“Now it’s driven by our policy, and takes minutes to present all evidence to the advisor, who then makes the final call.”
He added: “The investment is comparable to having a person do the work, but the outcome is consistent in every case.
“AI is there to assist, not to replace, and it puts me in a position to consider significant scale without depending on recruitment.”
