Reuters reported that President Donald Trump bought between $15,001 and $50,000 in Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) shares on June 23, according to a financial disclosure signed August 12 and made public August 22.
The purchase, part of more than 1,000 stock trades Trump made that month, came two weeks after SpaceX’s June 12 IPO, the biggest in U.S. history, which valued the company at $1.77 trillion. White House spokesman Davis Ingle said third-party financial institutions manage the president’s portfolio independently and that “neither President Trump nor any member of his family has any ability to direct, influence, or provide input” on the investments.
Reuters previously reported that Small Business Administration head Kelly Loeffler, a Trump cabinet member, also earned millions from SpaceX-related investments.

Bull Case
The disclosure shows a favorable policy environment for Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX). President Donald Trump has directed his administration to help sharply increase the number of U.S. commercial space launches. It is a policy priority that could benefit SpaceX given its leading position in the launch market.
Several senior administration figures also hold financial exposure to Musk-related companies. Trump cabinet member Kelly Loeffler previously invested in xAI, which later merged with SpaceX, and PitchBook analyst Franco Granda estimated that one of her investments could have reached roughly $2.2 million to $25.4 million at SpaceX’s IPO valuation These investments give several senior officials financial exposure to the broader performance of Musk’s businesses
The relatively small size of Trump’s investment makes the disclosure more notable as a signal of confidence than as a meaningful financial commitment. Trump purchased between $15,001 and $50,000 of SpaceX shares, an amount that represents a tiny position relative to the company’s roughly $2 trillion valuation. The purchase therefore has little impact on SpaceX’s finances, but it shows that Trump personally holds an investment in the company.
Bear Case
Trump’s investment could attract additional scrutiny because Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) holds substantial government contracts and works closely with federal agencies. Reuters noted that the purchase gives Trump a financial stake in a major government contractor, which could prompt investors and government-watchdog groups to examine potential conflicts of interest more closely. Even without any change in government policy, increased scrutiny could create additional reputational risk for SpaceX.
