N.Y. (WWTI) – SUNY Canton is expanding its academic offerings with the introduction of a new Applied Marketing Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree set to launch for the fall 2027 semester. Designed to complement existing Management and Finance majors within the School of Business and Liberal Arts, the program will be available in both traditional in-person and fully online formats
The curriculum blends a foundational business education with digital strategy and analytics. Students will gain hands-on experience across multiple disciplines, including digital marketing, social media marketing, traditional advertising, analytics, branding, e-commerce, and communications.
“We designed this program for students who want to understand audiences and turn creative ideas into effective marketing,” said Associate Professor and Business Department Chair Dawn Robinson, Ph.D. “Applied Marketing combines a strong business foundation with digital strategy and analytics, preparing students to make informed marketing decisions and put their ideas into practice.”
According to lead faculty, the degree focuses on equipping students to build campaigns, evaluate metrics to measure success, and solve real-world problems for real clients. Illustrating how these skills translate to the industry, Robinson noted that a sports apparel marketing manager might lead a campaign for a new sneaker design by targeting specific consumer groups through tailored advertisements, tracking campaign metrics and sales data, and using those insights to refine future strategies.
School of Business and Liberal Arts Dean Kenneth Rhee emphasized the strategic value of the program in today’s evolving market.
“Great companies don’t just sell products, they build brands that people remember and connections that last,” Rhee said. “That’s the power of marketing, and that’s what Applied Marketing prepares our students to do. Through essential concepts, practical tools, and hands-on experience, students will learn to turn creative ideas into meaningful impact. This exciting addition to our business offerings opens new pathways for students and strengthens our commitment to preparing them to lead and innovate in a rapidly changing business world.”
The program addresses growing demand in the labor market for skilled marketing professionals. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that positions for marketing analysts are projected to grow 7% through 2035—a rate faster than the national average. In 2025, the median annual pay for market research analysts was approximately $78,760.
