A spectacular midcentury modern tract home built by iconic real estate developer, Joseph Eichler, has just hit the market for $2,750,000 in the Sleepy Hollow enclave of San Anselmo, CA.
Celebrated for their seamless indoor/outdoor living integration, clean lines, and sun-soaked interiors, Eichlers also have “expansive floor-to-ceiling glass, sliding doors, are known for their open floor plans and often have radiant heat,” says listing agent Kira Swaim founder of Tam Team at City Real Estate.
Built in 1971, this four-bedroom residence boasting post-and-beam architecture has been thoughtfully modernized over the years. The sellers purchased the home from Swaim in 2015, when it was still in need of repairs.
“It was a distressed sale and was an auction property,” she says.
Since then, the sellers have taken great care to maintain the architectural integrity of the classic Eichler style, while making updates to bring it up to modern standards.
“It has all new piping, custom windows and doors; they renovated the kitchen and did a massive project in the backyard to create a camp oasis,” Swaim notes. “There is not much they didn’t touch.”
Designer details found throughout the 2,537-square-foot interior include geometric tile, accented walls, and “vibrant” wallpaper.
A bright and airy great room boasts vaulted wood ceilings, exposed beams, a two-sided wood-burning fireplace shared with the dining area, and retractable glass walls with direct patio access.
The gourmet chef’s kitchen features a custom bamboo island, expansive cabinetry, high-end appliances, an oversized window overlooking a custom-built entertaining pergola, and sliders that open to the in-ground pool.
Nearly every room in the home offers direct access to the outdoor living area surrounded by fruit and palm trees.
Other highlights include Tesla solar, smart power walls, as well as convenient access to woodland trails, Sleepy Hollow Creek, and a community center with pool.
Swaim says that although she has sold numerous homes in San Anselmo over the years, an Eichler like this, one of just 15 in the area, is really rare.
“I have never seen one done to this level,” she adds.
Swaim says the sellers have an “incredible eye for design” providing a “fun vibrant vibe” to the home’s legendary style.
“It has been a labor of love, for sure,” she says.
She also notes there has already been a lot of interest in the property.
“Having met most buyers, it appears to live as a primary residence,” she says. “A lot of families with young kids or kids on the way have looked at it.”
Because of its one-level living, the property could also appeal to empty nesters or an aging demographic.
“Sleepy Hollow is a really special community,” she adds. “In the summer especially, kids bike to the clubhouse; there are secret trails and walking paths along the creek. It’s kind of like a throwback to childhood memories.”
