Reddit introduces ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ feeds to give users more control over content
Reddit is introducing two separate feed options, ‘For You’ and ‘Following’, as the platform looks to expand content discovery while allowing users to focus on communities they already follow.
The new experience, announced on Wednesday, will roll out globally over the next few weeks. Users will be able to switch between the two feeds at any time, with Reddit retaining their most recently viewed option for their next visit.
The ‘For You’ feed will feature posts from communities users have joined alongside algorithmic recommendations based on their interests. The aim is to help users discover discussions and communities beyond those they already participate in.
In contrast, the ‘Following’ feed will exclusively display posts from communities users have joined, offering a more focused way to keep up with existing interests.

Reddit expands its focus on content discovery
The update is intended to make it easier for users to explore new discussions, encounter different viewpoints and participate in communities that match their interests, Reddit said in a blog post.
The company also outlined <a href="https://bitcomme.com/ai-training-plan-for-upskilling-marketers-2/” title=”AI training plan for upskilling marketers”>plans to test additional features that could give users greater control over their feeds. These include new ways to explore content by interest, hide individual posts and indicate which types of recommendations they would prefer to see less frequently.
Reddit said feedback from these experiments could help improve the relevance of recommendations and make content discovery easier to navigate.
The new layout also gives recommended content a more distinct place in the user experience, rather than mixing it into a single homepage feed alongside posts from joined communities.
However, the change may not appeal to users who prefer seeing content only from communities they have chosen to follow. Some users who encountered the redesigned experience during testing have already raised concerns about recommendations from communities outside their subscriptions.
With the new options, Reddit is seeking to balance personalised discovery with a more deliberate way for users to catch up on their existing communities.
