Officials with the city of Georgetown, Southwestern University and Williamson County celebrated the ceremonial start of construction on the Georgetown Customer Service Center at an Oct. 23 event.
The groundbreaking also marks the start of the larger SU 560 project—a planned mixed-use development on 560 acres of land adjacent to the SU campus off East University Avenue.
About the project
Expected to open in mid-2028, the Georgetown Customer Service Center will consolidate 13 city departments over three floors and house utility billing, public meeting spaces, and remote police and library operations, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
It will bring over 300 employees to the development daily, Mayor Josh Schroeder said at the groundbreaking ceremony.
“We were going to build this customer service building on another location, but when this opportunity came up, we said, ‘No, this is where we need to be,'” Schroeder said.
Designed by Marmon Mok Architecture and built by Swinerton, the 75,000-square-foot facility will cost $56 million, Schroeder said.

“Rather than asking, ‘How much can we build on 560 acres?’ we asked a more interesting question: ‘What kind of a place do we want to create?'” SU President Laura Trombley said. “And that’s a very Southwestern question.”
The first phase of SU 560 will span 67 acres and include the Georgetown Customer Service Center.
