Despite economic headwinds that have Americans watching their wallets, one spending priority remains nonnegotiable: health. The natural and organic products industry is poised to reach $363.25 billion in 2026, according to data from theState of Natural Snapshot Fall 2026, with growth accelerating to 5.8% this year and climbing above 6% through 2030.
But the real story I see behind these numbers isn’t just about growth—it’s about transformation.
The most dramatic shift is happening in how consumers shop. Most of us spend a lot of time on our phones (likely more than we should). And it’s becoming easier to shop this way, for just about everything. The data proves this new way is increasingly popular: E-commerce is exploding at 9.8%, now commanding more than 10% of total industry market share. For supplements specifically, 2026 marks a watershed moment: It’s the first year online sales will surpass all other channels, a milestone we originally projected for 2028. Social commerce platforms, particularly TikTok Shop, have accelerated this digital dominance.
It’s not just supplement shoppers changing their ways. The personal care category is witnessing its own channel disruption. Mass market and beauty supply discounters hold the largest share at 29.1%, but online retailers are closing fast at 8.2% growth. By 2030, the market share gap between these channels narrows from 3.1 percentage points to just 0.5 percentage points, signaling that online shopping is rapidly competing for dominance in this category as well.
One retailer type that is working to meet consumers where they are at is specialty personal care stores, which are growing at 6.7% as they pivot toward wellness. Ulta Beauty, which tried a small pandemic-era initiative to sell supplements alongside its cosmetics, significantly expanded into the space last year, capturing Generation Alpha shoppers, who are building early brand loyalty.
Finally, the practitioner channel, consisting almost entirely of supplements, is growing at 7%, outpacing the industry’s 5.8% overall growth rate. And as we continue to see AI become more integrated into clinical care, I predict this channel will grow even more.
The message is clear: Whether consumers are scrolling on smartphones or browsing brick-and-mortar aisles, where they shop is transforming as dramatically as what they buy.
