Meta Platforms (META, Financials) is highlighting the possible <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/4645932-banks-insurers-consumer-inertia-stocks-face-pressure-on-metas-muse-ai-disruption-fears” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>effects of agentic AI on financial services, as its Muse assistant is gaining acceptance among consumers.
Muse is built to do multi-step operations on behalf of a user and has raised issues about how AI agents can eventually affect the way that people browse for financial products, move money and manage deposits.
Investors considered that possibility Wednesday, putting pressure on bank stocks. The Invesco KBW Bank ETF slid 2.3%, Wells Fargo (WFC, Financials) was down 3.9%, JPMorgan Chase (JPM, Financials) lost 3.4% and Bank of America (BAC, Financials) sank 3%.
BofA Securities analysts stated the possible impact might be from lower decision latency. An AI agent might recognize surplus cash, compare deposit yields and perhaps act on behalf of a consumer rather than merely providing information.
But the analysts also said the disruption is far from certain. deposit betas how much banks’ deposit charges move with market rates will be a more important measure than app downloads or user rankings, they added.
The fallout also spilled beyond the banks, with Allstate, LPL Financial, Charles Schwab and Virtu Financial among financial equities that fell Wednesday.
Investors’ big question: does agentic AI actually influence real customer behavior, or only generate early interest?
The next trigger will be signs that AI-driven financial decisions are starting to impact the pricing of deposits and the battle for bank funding.
