“The 8:30” hosts Julie Hyman, Pras Subramanian, and Jake Conley discuss stocks to watch on for Sept. 22, including Meta (META), Shopify (SHOP), and AutoZone (AZO).
So, the open that we’re setting up for today is definitely not as enthusiastic as it was yesterday. Nasdaq futures are indicating a little bit of a lower open.
Um, but you know, I mentioned that we are seeing um some of the trending tickers that we’re watching include um uh Viking, which we just talked about. Some of the others that we’re watching here, I’m seeing Shopify actually on the list, which is interesting. We talked about Muse a little bit earlier, or a lot earlier actually, we talked about it a lot. And Amazon saying we’re not going to allow Muse on our platform, but Shopify did sign Taking the other side with Muse. I mean, of course Shopify doesn’t have like a dedicated site, so it captures its revenue in a different way. Um, so perhaps that’s why it’s trending this morning, but the stock was up about 7% yesterday. It looks like it’s getting another 6 and a half% um thus far this morning. Meta continues to trend. I mean, it’s just amazing the the wave that it’s caught and the sustainability of the wave that is caught here this morning. So I’m just looking at some of the other trending tickets we’re watching and those are some of them.
Taking the other side of that trade. Right.
That’s right.
That’s right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Just real quick, I know we talked about AutoZone. I’m seeing AutoZone uh reported beat on um on the on the EPS side. Stock up about 2% or so. Kind of surprised to see. They actually they actually had a difficult first eight weeks of the quarter, but then the back eight weeks were actually kind of strong. Uh maybe you see people sort of, you know, with their older vehicles repairing those vehicles. I don’t know. I’m not sure, but they also opened up 165 new stores uh in the quarter, which seems like 175, excuse me. uh 97 in the US, 68 in Mexico, 10 in Brazil. Um kind of interesting to see that uh for the fiscal year 374 new stores. I mean so there’s some growth there beyond the organic stuff, they’re actually building new stores. And I guess that speaks to the fact that people are wanting to either shop there or or just fix their cars as much as they can uh with repair centers.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
You know who else reported this morning? Thor Industries.
Ooh. There we go. Here we go.
In your recreational vehicle, also in the planes, trains and automobiles suite. And it was an interesting report because the company’s um sales beat estimates, um but its earnings missed estimates and gross margin was below what analysts had anticipated, which indicates, I mean, admittedly, I don’t know Thor intimately, but my guess would be it’s a cost issue, right? You know, we talk about pricing power through throughout this economy um for premium products. I you know, I don’t know how RVs uh get calculated in that in that whole thing. Maybe you know
Right. Yep.
That’s right.
That’s right.
Yeah, I mean, they they do have the different variations of of RVs and and stuff like that that I mean maybe the the premium ones are maybe doing
Yeah.
