Meta said Thursday that one of its artificial intelligence models accessed the internet on its own and hacked another company, the latest in a series of disclosures about AI models going rogue.

Aug. 6 (UPI) — Meta is the latest tech company to share that its AI model hacked into another company’s systems, marking at least the third such incident in recent weeks.

WhatsApp is adding anonymous polls, timed voting, @all mentions, and new group tools as Meta expands the app’s collaboration capabilities.

Tech giant Meta revealed Wednesday that one of its artificial intelligence models hacked another organization during testing, the third time in recent weeks that an AI model has improperly accessed a third-party company.   

On Wednesday, Meta said that a configuration error by Irregular, an independent company that conducts cybersecurity evaluations for Meta, inadvertently gave one of its AI models access to the open internet during a test.

Meta is making strides to catch up to AI heavyweights like OpenAI and Anthropic. The company announced on Wednesday a new agentic coding tool and the new AI model that powers it.

Meta, considered a bit of a straggler in the AI harnesses realm, is making strides to catch up. This week, the company released a new terminal coding agent aimed at programmers looking for assistance with complex tasks across large software code bases.
