Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs stated that tech giant Meta has deactivated around 185,000 accounts belonging to Indonesian children under the age of 16, over the past two months.

The move is part of the company’s compliance with Indonesia’s Government Regulation on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP Tunas).

Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Oversight at the ministry, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that this is the latest data reported to the government by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.

He explained that Meta is among the major digital platforms that have reported removing underage accounts in compliance with PP Tunas, which aims to protect Indonesian children from social media risks. Other platforms that have submitted reports include TikTok and YouTube.

Following the latest update from Meta, the total number of underage accounts deactivated across major social media platforms since the regulation took effect on March 28, 2026, has reached more than 4.8 million.

The total includes 4.1 million TikTok accounts, 600,000 YouTube accounts, and 185,000 accounts across platforms operated by Meta.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has called on other digital platforms that have not yet submitted periodic reports on child protection measures and underage account enforcement to fulfill their obligations.

“The others have not submitted their reports yet. We have requested regular updates, but they have not been delivered,” Alexander said.

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid stated that approximately 200 digital platforms have submitted self-assessments of their risk profiles to the government as part of the PP Tunas implementation.

These platforms span various sectors, including e-commerce, online gaming, and entertainment. The government is currently evaluating these self-assessments to determine the risk profile for each platform.Related news: Indonesia tightens child safety rules for e-commerce platformsRelated news: Minister asks parents to aware on four digital risks for childrenRelated news: About 200 digital platforms comply with Indonesia’s child safety rules
