New Update
IndiGo Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of IndiGo, has invested in AI startup Sarvam AI as part of its Series B funding round, strengthening an existing partnership between the two companies.
IndiGo and Sarvam had already been working together to deploy AI across the airline’s operations, including tools designed to improve passenger experience, support employees and streamline operational workflows.
The investment is expected to deepen that collaboration by combining IndiGo’s aviation expertise and operational scale with Sarvam’s artificial intelligence models, including voice and agentic systems.
“AI is fast becoming a foundational capability for the aviation industry, reshaping customer experience, workforce productivity and operational decision-making.Our partnership with Sarvam gives IndiGo access to cutting-edge AI capabilities, built in India, and tailored to the needs of the market,” said Neetan Chopra, Chief Digital and Information Officer at IndiGo.
Chopra added, “By combining these technologies with our operational expertise and scale, we can accelerate innovation while maximising value for our customers, employees, and other stakeholders.”
Founded in 2023 by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, Sarvam develops AI models and enterprise technology covering areas including text, speech, computer vision and document processing.
The startup is also developing infrastructure for training and running AI models, as well as agentic systems designed for enterprise use.
Sarvam has said its Series B funding will support work on frontier AI models, including applications in agentic AI, coding and cybersecurity. It also plans to invest in computing infrastructure and expand enterprise deployments.
In June, Sarvam announced a $234 million first close of its Series B round at a post-money valuation of $1.5 billion.
HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners were among the investors in that round, alongside existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners.
The fundraising marks a significant increase from Sarvam’s $41 million Series A round in December 2023, which was led by Lightspeed with participation from Peak XV Partners and Khosla Ventures.
Pratyush Kumar, co-founder of Sarvam, said aviation was well suited to enterprise AI because of the scale of customer interactions and the complexity of time-sensitive operations.
“Aviation is a powerful setting for enterprise AI because it combines millions of customer interactions with complex, time-sensitive operations,” he said.
“IndiGo brings the domain depth and scale needed to identify where AI can create real value.Together, we can develop systems that are useful in production and build a stronger template for enterprise AI in India,” Kumar added.
The investment forms part of a wider effort by IndiGo Ventures to back businesses and technologies that could have applications across aviation, mobility and travel.
IndiGo Ventures received approval from the SEBI in 2024 to establish an Alternative Investment Fund with a corpus of Rs 600 crore, including a green shoe option of Rs 300 crore.
The venture arm has also invested Rs 10 crore in Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation, which is developing electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft for potential air-taxi services.
