Indian-Origin Couple Donates $20 Million to University of North Texas
Anuradha and Vikas Sinha donate $20 million to establish a new college at UNT, focusing on artificial intelligence and analytics.
An Indian-origin couple, Anuradha and Vikas Sinha, has made a significant donation of $20 million to the University of North Texas (UNT) to create the College of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics. This initiative aims to enhance the university’s educational and research capabilities in the rapidly evolving fields of artificial intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, health informatics, and information science.
In recognition of their generous contribution, the newly established college will be named the Anuradha and Vikas Sinha College of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics. This institution is expected to serve as a central hub for academic programs and research in these key areas. Moreover, the donation will facilitate the creation of six permanent endowments dedicated to scholarships, professorships, college leadership, entrepreneurship, incubation, advanced research, and emerging technologies.
Vikas Sinha, who completed his doctorate in information science at UNT in 2023, emphasised the essential role universities play in equipping students for a future increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence. “Artificial intelligence will be one of the defining technologies of our generation, and universities have an essential role to play in preparing the people who will shape its future,” he stated in remarks reported by FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth.
He further expressed that the donation holds personal significance for them, as it reflects their journey as immigrants and students in the United States. “For us, this gift is about paying that opportunity forward and recognising that immigrants don’t simply participate in the American dream, they help build it,” he added.
The Sinha couple’s commitment to UNT is not new; they previously aided in establishing the Anuradha and Vikas Sinha Department of Data Science in 2024 and contributed significantly in 2025 to create the Sinha Innovation Lab for Data Science. After completing their undergraduate studies in civil engineering at Sri Venkateswara University in India, both pursued further education in the US—Vikas Sinha particularly at Northwestern University before obtaining his doctorate.
He currently serves as the vice president of the Mainframe Software Division at Broadcom and has been a member of the UNT College of Information Leadership Board since 2023. Sinha highlighted the transformative power of education in their lives, stating, “Education has opened doors for us throughout our lives, and we want to hold those doors open for others.”
The new college will operate through two primary academic divisions. One division will focus on developing intelligent systems, while the second will study the interaction of information and intelligent systems within human and institutional contexts. Additionally, UNT plans to establish the Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Institute, which will connect research and teaching across multiple disciplines, fostering industry partnerships and securing external funding.
University President Harrison Keller noted that the establishment of the new college aligns with UNT’s broader strategy to adapt to rapid changes in technology, employment, and research.
A campus celebration for the naming of the new college is planned later this year. Founded in 1890, the University of North Texas has transformed from a small private institution into one of the largest public research universities in the United States, showcasing a strong commitment to innovation in education and research.
