Time savings are overtaking comfort and prestige as the main driver for corporate jet use, especially when multi-leg schedules make commercial flights too costly in lost productivity a UK-based aviation services group
Data from the European Business Aviation Association shows business aviation reaches over 1,500 European airports, roughly 1,000 of which lack scheduled airline connections. The same body calculates that business aviation travellers gain about 127 minutes on average versus the quickest commercial option.
Yet the true advantage often goes beyond flying time. Layovers, airport queues, hotel nights and lengthy ground commutes can stretch a one-hour meeting into a multi-day trip. For firms dispatching staff, extra lodging, transit and idle hours add to the overall expense.
Luca Zinnemann, who leads Private & Commercial Jets DACH at Chapman Freeborn, observes that customer demands are evolving. He says many clients now view charter flights mainly as a way to manage time and logistics, not as a luxury badge. Their usual goals include skipping overnight stays, using smaller airports nearer the destination, packing multiple appointments into a single day, and locking in precise departure and arrival windows.
Access to regional airfields proves especially useful for crews heading to factories, project sites or towns outside major transport hubs. Zinnemann points to a case where six travellers visited three regional locations in Central and Eastern Europe across two days. Keeping the chartered plane with the group eliminated connecting flights, long transfers and an extra hotel night.
The financial impact of saved hours grows when client meetings, contract talks or tight project deadlines are at stake. In those scenarios, the gain is not merely convenience; a missed appointment could cost a customer, stall a project or force the whole team to travel again.
On well-served routes, scheduled airlines still beat private aviation for practicality. But for complicated trips with several stops, remote destinations or inflexible deadlines, the ability to control one’s schedule can turn chartering into a strategic business decision.
