Health Prime International reports data breach following third-party cyberattack
Health Prime International said it suffered a data security breach following a cyberattack on one of its third-party service providers.
Health Prime International is a global healthcare services provider that delivers revenue cycle management, data analytics, and IT services to physician groups, medical practices, and hospital-affiliated health systems. The company also offers electronic medical record (EMR)-agnostic platforms, automation solutions, and integrated technology services.
In a data security incident notice, HPI said that on August 3, it became aware of a breach in which threat actors infiltrated the internal network of its service provider, Tebra Technologies, and stole confidential information. Tebra Technologies, formerly known as Kareo and PatientPop, offers a cloud-based platform for independent medical practices and serves as a key software provider and technology partner to Health Prime International.
The revenue cycle management company immediately launched an investigation, with support from external cybersecurity experts, to assess the nature and scope of the incident. It also took steps to secure the affected systems and notified relevant law enforcement authorities about the same.
The investigation revealed that the compromised data included individuals’ names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical records, and health insurance details. HPI stated that it would disclose the number of affected individuals once they have been identified.
HPI has urged all affected individuals to remain vigilant by regularly reviewing their credit reports, account and benefits statements, and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies, including local police and the state attorney general.
At the time of publishing, no known hacker group claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on Tebra Technologies. The company also did not share details on who was behind the attack or whether it had received a ransom demand.
