Google announced new education-focused AI tools designed to support more personalized student learning across Gemini and Google Classroom.
The updates include study notebooks in the Gemini app, no-cost practice standardized tests developed with The Princeton Review, and expanded access to Gemini in Classroom for students.
Google said millions of people already use its AI tools to learn new topics inside and outside the classroom. The company said the new features are designed to help students study through connected AI tools grounded in their learning goals, course materials, and classroom context.
Study notebooks are rolling out in the Gemini app as a dedicated space for interactive and adaptive learning. Students can type a prompt or upload class materials, then take a diagnostic quiz that identifies areas where they should focus.
Gemini then creates a plan of bite-sized, interactive lessons to help students deepen their understanding. As students complete quizzes and track their progress, lessons automatically update based on their results and any new material they upload.
Study notebooks also sync with NotebookLM, enabling students to continue learning there, ask questions about course materials, and create study aids such as flashcards and infographics.
Google said study notebooks are rolling out now to personal accounts globally and will become available in school-issued accounts in the coming weeks. The feature is currently desktop-only, with mobile support expected later this summer.
Google is also partnering with The Princeton Review to launch full-length, no-cost practice GRE and ACT tests in Gemini in the coming weeks. The company also plans to add practice tests for Akira ENEM for students in Brazil.
After completing a practice test, students will receive a detailed performance breakdown by topic so they can understand where to focus their study time. Study notebooks also support SAT preparation and are expected to support more standardized tests over time.
Google is also bringing Gemini in Classroom to students of all ages. The company said the Classroom experience is designed as a trusted way for students to use AI through experiences grounded in their course materials and vetted with pedagogy and safety experts.
Through Google Classroom, students will be able to use Gemini to create study guides, test their knowledge with quizzes, or build deeper understanding of topics with Guided Learning.
Teachers will also soon be able to assign students a study notebook grounded in specific class materials directly in Google Classroom. This will give teachers insights into where a class or individual student may need more help before an exam.
The updates reflect Google’s broader effort to embed AI into education products while connecting Gemini, NotebookLM, and Classroom into a more cohesive learning experience for students and teachers.
