- The 7 Chinese companies in the top 10 held a combined 72.8% share of the global EV battery market.
- CATL and BYD had a combined share of 54.6%, while Rept entered the top 10 for the first time.
CATL (HKEX: 3750) and BYD (HKEX: 1211) continued to dominate the global electric vehicle (EV) battery market in the first 7 months of 2026, though the gap between them widened.
Global EV battery usage totaled 725.2 GWh in January-July, up 20.4% year-on-year, according to data released Monday by South Korean market researcher SNE Research.
In July alone, battery installations reached 116.0 GWh, up 22.1% year-on-year.
CATL retained the top spot in January-July with global installations of 289.6 GWh, up 26.6% year-on-year.
Its global market share rose to 39.9% from 38.0% a year earlier, nearing 40% and unchanged from January-June.
Second-ranked BYD recorded installations of 106.7 GWh, up just 4.7% year-on-year. Its share fell to 14.7% from 16.9% a year earlier.
The 2 companies held a combined 54.6% share, slightly below 54.9% a year earlier but still <a href="https://bitcomme.com/studying-all-the-way-to-uzbekistan-ums-accounting-student-steps-onto-the-world-stage/” title=”Studying All the Way to Uzbekistan, UMS Accounting Student Steps Onto the World Stage”>accounting for more than half the global market.
South Korea’s LG Energy Solution (LGES) ranked third with 60.3 GWh, up 4.5% year-on-year. Its share fell to 8.3% from 9.6%.
LGES continued to supply Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), Hyundai Motor Group, GM and Volkswagen, but its growth lagged well behind the overall market, SNE Research said.
China’s CALB (HKEX: 3931) ranked fourth with 37.3 GWh, up 34.3% year-on-year. Its share rose to 5.1% from 4.6%.
Gotion High-tech (SZSE: 002074) ranked fifth with 34.0 GWh, up 44.2% year-on-year. Its share increased to 4.7% from 3.9%.
Japan’s Panasonic ranked sixth with 26.2 GWh, up 7.6% year-on-year. It benefited from Tesla’s sales in North America, though its share fell to 3.6% from 4.0%.
Eve Energy (SZSE: 300014) ranked seventh with 25.0 GWh, up 53.1% year-on-year, lifting its share to 3.5%.
South Korea’s SK On was the only company in the top 10 to record a decline, with installations falling 9.8% year-on-year to 22.3 GWh. Its share shrank to 3.1% from 4.1%.
China’s Svolt Energy ranked ninth with 18.9 GWh, up 39.1% year-on-year.
Rept Battero Energy (HKEX: 666) saw installations surge 118.5% to 16.9 GWh, entering the top 10 for the first time and replacing Sunwoda (SZSE: 300207), which previously ranked tenth.

Battery installations rose 29.3% year-on-year in Europe and 16.6% in China. Growth reached 77.1% in Asian markets outside China and 192.6% in South America.
North America, meanwhile, recorded a 20.2% decline. Battery electric vehicles’ share of new-vehicle sales in the US fell to around 6% after federal EV tax credits expired at the end of September last year, SNE Research said.
Top battery makers’ share in China in July 2026: CATL 42.33%, BYD 19.23%
CATL remained China’s largest power battery maker in July, though its market share fell 0.37 percentage points from June.
