Federal Election Commission campaign finance filings site has outage ahead of midterms
The Federal Election Commission’s electronic filing system is experiencing an outage that started late Monday, and it continued throughout the day Tuesday — one week ahead of the midterm elections.

The FEC, which enforces campaign finance rules but does not oversee how elections are conducted, in a status update at 8:17 p.m. ET Tuesday stated that “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.” However, the FEC, on its website and social media pages, as of late Tuesday night, hadn’t given further details about what the problem was or how it was being fixed by IT personnel.
As of 11:50 p.m. ET Tuesday, the FEC’s website still stated, “FEC’s electronic filing system is currently offline: We apologize for the inconvenience, and we’re continuing to work to resolve the issue.”
CNN reports that the outage affects candidates’ and committees’ ability to file campaign finance reports that detail last-minute contributions and spending on specific contests, but that the outage does not affect voting in the midterms currently underway across the country, CNN reports.
The website for searching already-filed reports remains online, a spokesperson told the Associated Press. He declined to elaborate on the outage.
