I know. I know. Video games. We’ll get there, I promise. But before we slog through <a href="https://bitcomme.com/what-it-is-and-why-it-matters/” title=”What It Is and Why It Matters”>what might eventually go down as one of the most momentous weeks in the history of our industry (courtesy of EA), let’s pause for some much-needed musical affirmation courtesy of The Avalanches.
The Australian plunderphonics gurus dropped ‘Can’t Get Over Losing You‘ last night and I have not been able to get it out of my head. Any release from The Avalanches tends to be a very special thing. A masterful tapestry of indiscernible samples and left-field collaborators that never fails to produce magic.
There was a preposterous sixteen year gap between their electric first album Since I Left You and its rambunctious follow up, Wildflower. To put that into context. I was six years old when their debut record released. I then saw them on tour in Manchester as a twenty-something when they returned with Wildflower.
Mercifully, they’ve been a touch more consistent since then and another album in the form of We Will Always Love You (my personal favourite) followed in 2020.
If none of this means anything to you—I am jealous. That means you can go and listen to their entire discography with fresh ears. What I wouldn’t give to Eternal Sunshine myself and do precisely that. Don’t rush in, though. Grab your best pair of headphones and melt into your favourite chair before hitting play. These records will change your life, I promise.
C’mon then. Back to the news.
