EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (KUTV) —Direct Communications said a cyberattack caused internet outages and service disruptions for customers throughout Eagle Mountain.
The company said Sept. 19 that its network experienced unusually high traffic consistent with a distributed denial-of-service, or DDoS, attack.
The disruption also affected the company’s upstream network providers, causing slow speeds, packet loss and complete service outages.
Direct Communications later said an upstream provider implemented a fix that restored stability to the network. Some customers could still experience slower-than-normal speeds or other performance issues, the company said.
Customers still experiencing issues were asked to unplug their router for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in. The company said customers who factory reset their routers during the outage will need to set them up again.
Direct Communications said it would continue monitoring the network.
