Baltimore Polytechnic Institute opens Maryland’s first Cyber Range for hands-on cyberattack training
Cyberattacks have had a great impact on infrastructure, but students in Baltimore are learning how to address it.
Baltimore Polytechnic Institute’s Cyber Range is the first-of-its-kind at a Maryland school. It simulates real-world cyberattacks, so that students can get hands-on training in detection of and responses to online threats.
School leaders said the lessons at the Cyber Range, which was created through a donation from BCR Cyber, will help prepare students for real-world scenarios, both in college and in the workforce.
“This new cyber range will give our students the opportunity to train in an industry-grade environment using the same type of technology and experiencing the kinds of real-world scenarios they will encounter in college and in the cyber security workforce. That is important because, at Poly, we do not want learning to stop with the theory,” Poly’s principal, Mark Sawyer, told WBAL-TV 11 News.
The offering is similar to an Advanced Placement introductory cybersecurity college course.
