Costco opening Oct. 28 in western New York
The first-ever Costco in western New York will open Oct. 28, just weeks before the holiday shopping season begins. While the Amherst location remains closed until then, its fuel pumps are already operating, allowing members to purchase gas, according to a Buffalo News report.
Costco also has set up a temporary 2,500-square-foot storefront at Walden Galleria for those wanting to sign up for a membership, according to the news outlet.
The Amherst location is one of four warehouses Costco is opening in October. The other three locations opening include:
- The Colony, Texas.
- Lawrence, Kansas.
- Camarillo, California.
Costco has a target of 30-plus new openings per year going forward. In Q2 it opened four warehouses, three in the U.S. and one Canadian business center which brought its total warehouse count to 928 worldwide. It expects 26 net new openings in its 2026 fiscal year.
