Constructor launches Stripe-powered agentic checkout
KAREN JOY BACUDOFinance Editor
Constructor has launched Agentic Checkout with Stripe, allowing shoppers to complete purchases inside an AI shopping agent.
The feature is now available globally. Constructor says it is the first company to offer Stripe-powered checkout within an on-site shopping agent.
The product brings discovery, recommendations and payment into one interface on retail sites and apps. Shoppers can ask broad questions, narrow their options, get answers about specific products and pay without moving to a separate checkout flow.
Stripe enables payment within the agent through Link by Stripe and other payment methods. The feature is already available in Constructor’s AI Shopping Agent and AI Product Insights Agent.
The launch reflects a broader move by retailers to test AI tools beyond search and recommendations. Many existing agentic shopping tools help consumers find products but still send them back into a standard eCommerce journey when it is time to buy.
Keeping checkout inside the same conversation may reduce the number of steps between product selection and payment. The update is intended to limit drop-off after customers have already shown intent to purchase.
Retailers using Constructor’s shopping agents can enable the Stripe checkout option by updating Constructor’s user interface library and adding Stripe credentials to their configuration. Retailers not already using Stripe can also turn on the feature without changing payment arrangements elsewhere in their business.
Constructor works with retailers including Sephora, Under Armour, The Very Group, White Stuff, Target Australia and AMI Paris. Companies using both Constructor and Stripe can now connect the two systems to add in-agent checkout.
Constructor pointed to growing use of AI in shopping. It cited research showing that four in 10 shoppers have used agentic shopping tools, while Stripe data showed that 80% of Link customers used a chat-based agent in the past month and half use AI for shopping research at least monthly.
It also said adoption of its AI agents has risen sharply over the past year, with the number of companies deploying them increasing by 900%.
Constructor’s software is designed to learn from shopper behaviour across a retailer’s own channels. It uses that data to tailor recommendations and product responses based on context, history and intent.
Its AI Shopping Agent is used for broader discovery queries, such as requests for outfit or meal planning suggestions. The AI Product Insights Agent focuses on questions asked on product detail pages, including sizing, ingredients and other item-specific details.
Agentic Checkout will be extended to more parts of retailers’ digital properties.
“The promise of agentic commerce is that a shopper can express what they need and AI can help them every step of the way, making every part of the journey easier, more helpful, and more enjoyable,” said Eli Finkelshteyn, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Constructor.
“Delivering on that promise requires best-in-class discovery and then best-in-class checkout. Constructor has spent years focused on improving the discovery experience and helping shoppers find the right products, while Stripe has built world-class payments infrastructure that helps shoppers buy those products easily and securely. Together, we’re making agentic shopping more complete for consumers and more valuable for retailers,” Finkelshteyn said.
