CATL Launches E-Commerce Platform for Direct Energy Storage Sales
Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL), the world’s largest producer of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, has launched an e-commerce platform that enables direct online sales to smaller energy storage buyers. The platform, officially launched on Friday, allows orders as small as three boxes of its energy storage products, according to a social media post by the company.
During beta testing, the platform attracted over 1,800 energy storage companies, which used it to bypass distributors. CATL stated that small orders qualify for a five-year quality warranty, matching the warranty provided to larger purchasers, and that delivery would occur within three to five days.
The move comes as CATL faces intensifying competition from domestic peers, even as energy storage demand expands amid global energy shocks and investment in artificial intelligence data centres. Lucas Zhang Liutong, director of Hong Kong-based consultancy WaterRock Energy Economics, commented that the platform likely addresses potential demand in distributed solar and battery energy storage systems from residential and small commercial users. Zhang noted that price-hour spreads driven by China’s power market reform are expected to increase needs among smaller users.
