Ga. (WJBF) —A local nonprofit is helping middle and high school students turn their business ideas into reality
The Power of Y.E.P. (Youth Entrepreneurship Program), created by Cura Community Outreach, will give students a 12-week course on what it takes to become an entrepreneur.
Dr. Yolanda Jackson, president and founder of Cura Community Outreach, says her own experience growing up around small businesses inspired the program.
“My grandmother owned a beauty salon in her community for over 40 years,” Jackson said. “So I had the opportunity to see how small businesses can impact the community.”
Jackson says she sees that same potential in young people across the CSRA.
“What I’ve learned since I’ve been here in Augusta is that our youth are very creative, they’re very innovative and those things are power,” she said.
The curriculum will cover the entrepreneurial mindset, finances, and writing a business plan.
The free program starts January 9, 2027, and is open to students in grades six through 12 across Augusta and the CSRA. Classes will be held at Accelerate Augusta, 600 Broad Street.
Parents and guardians can scan the QR code on the organization’s website to join the interest list. Jackson says the organization is also looking for sponsors and mentors.
