AI-powered equity research platform Pinegap has raised $8 million in a Series A funding round led by Stellaris Venture Partners.Existing investors Inventus, Silicon Valley Quad and DeVC also participated in the round.
Pinegap said it will use the funding to expand its sales and go-to-market operations, grow its engineering team and establish an in-house team of former equity research analysts.
Founded in 2024 by Deepak Sharma and Ankit Varmani, Pinegap develops AI agents designed to automate recurring research tasks for institutional investors, including hedge funds, long-only mutual funds and registered investment advisers in the US.
The platform builds custom AI agents around individual funds’ investment approaches, private data and preferred reporting formats. Research outputs can be delivered automatically according to set schedules or triggered by market events.
“Every workflow we automate, whether it’s an earnings preview, a company primer or a thesis tracker, is time an analyst gets back to focus on what only they can do: judgment, conviction and decisions. Pinegap isn’t a chatbot or a search tool. It’s a platform built around how a fund actually operates, tuned to their data, their format and their investment style,” Sharma said.
The startup claims to have deployed more than 1,000 AI agents across more than 100 institutional clients, generating upwards of 50,000 research reports a month.
Alok Goyal, partner at Stellaris Venture Partners, said buy-side analysts and portfolio managers were dealing with growing volumes and complexity of information.
“Pinegap is solving a real, high-stakes problem with a team that has lived it from both sides, the domain depth of a career analyst combined with the technical velocity of a product builder,” Goyal said.
