Mar Vista Investment Partners, LLC, an investment management company, released its “Mar Vista U.S. Quality Premier Strategy” third-quarter 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. In Q3 2026, strengthening macroeconomic headwinds—rising interest rates, inflation, and elevated energy prices—weighed on equities, though AI enthusiasm buoyed index leaders. Mar Vista’s U.S. Quality Premier strategy returned +1.74% net in Q3 2026 (vs. the S&P 500’s +2.30%), aided by IT and financial holdings while industrial stocks detracted. The team initiated SARO and exited ORCL. Moving into the fourth quarter, the firm remains cautious, focusing on valuation discipline amid macro headwinds and unproven AI capital efficiency. Mar Vista U.S. Quality Premier Strategy stated the following regarding Mettler-Toledo International Inc. (NYSE:MTD) in its Q3 2026 investor letter:
“Mettler-Toledo International Inc. (NYSE:MTD) outperformed during the quarter as both sentiment toward life-science tools and MTD’s underlying growth outlook improved meaningfully. Investors became more constructive on the potential for AI to increase pharmaceutical R&D productivity and experimental throughput, which should ultimately drive greater utilization and investment in lab automation, analytical instruments and data infrastructure. Management specifically highlighted pharma customers automating experiments to increase throughput and using LabX to aggregate experimental data that can then be leveraged by AI. At the same time, the broader biopharma backdrop improved: novel FDA drug approvals accelerated supporting confidence that stronger pipelines and improving biotech funding will translate into future R&D spending. China was another important inflection point for MTD, with China sales growing ahead of expectations and management pointing to strong biopharma investment and the potential for further acceleration in its China Lab business. Combined with improving biopharma funding and activity, MTD’s new-product cycle, and a return to growth in areas such as China and pipettes, the narrative shifted from a prolonged post-COVID lab downturn toward accelerating growth into 2027. We expect these factors to drive better earnings expectations and a higher valuation multiple.”
