Ukrainian forces move to digital fuel accounting, cutting processing time to hours
    Friday, 3 July 2026, 05:05

According to the online media Ukrinform.

According to data from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have switched to digital accounting of fuel and lubricants in the Logistics Support Management (LSM) system.

Transition to digital fuel accounting in the Armed Forces

This means that data on stock levels and movements of fuel are now available in a single system, and supply requests are processed in a few hours or one day instead of weeks.

Digital accounting enables quicker visibility of the real needs of units and faster decisions on fuel distribution. More than 70% of decisions on the distribution of fuel and lubricants are now made at the corps level – closer to the troops and taking into account the on-site situation.

559 military units and more than 17,000 subunits have joined the LSM system, which maintains digital accounting of fuel and lubricants. About 800 users actively work in the system every day.

Fuel and lubricants accounting remains one of the most active areas of work in the LSM: every fourth transaction in the system is related to fuel movement.

Processing time for requests is reduced: instead of a week – a few hours or one day.

Decisions on the distribution of fuel and lubricants are made at the corps level – faster, more transparent and without unnecessary approvals.

The command has access to real-time information on stocks, movements, and distribution of fuel and lubricants.

According to Major Ivan Rusyn, an officer of the fuel and lubricants support department at the Centralized Fuel and Lubricants Management (CFLM), the LSM significantly improves control over the movement of fuels and lubricants. The system enables faster decision-making and provides transparency in the transfer of fuels and lubricants between military units.

The head of the fuel and lubricants service of military unit A4638, Captain Yuriy Sundeyev, noted that after switching to the LSM, the unit abandoned paper-based accounting of fuel and lubricants.

Drafting inventory descriptions and documents for reconciliations now takes mere minutes, and all work is conducted in a unified system, significantly reducing the volume of routine tasks.

Territorial supply departments reconcile information in the LSM with paper records to confirm the accuracy of the transition to the digital workflow.

After completing the verification, paper reports on stock levels and movements of fuels and lubricants will become a thing of the past; all the necessary information will be available in the system, and the command will be able to receive up-to-date data instantly without unnecessary reporting and duplication of processes.

The Logistics Support Management (LSM) system is built on SAP – one of the most widespread solutions for defense resource management in the world, used by more than 90% of NATO armies. It is being implemented by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Defence Forces Command.

LSM provides a single digital space for resource management: from accounting and control to supply planning and making managerial decisions based on up-to-date data.

This implementation helps reduce paperwork, speed up response to unit needs, and increase transparency in logistical processes.
