Remote Work Is Working. That’s Why It’s Worth Protecting
Remote and hybrid working has transformed the way many public and civil service workers do their jobs. For thousands of Fórsa members, it provides a better work-life balance, reduces stress and commuting costs, and helps them work more productively.
And that’s why it’s not just pay that’s on the table with the National Ballot. Protecting remote and hybrid work is a core objective of your union.
We know that remote work is under attack across all sectors. The stronger the result of this ballot, the stronger our negotiating position.
There have been attempts to roll back on remote and flexible work across the civil and public service. Workers fought back and won in many instances, but there’s a significant push to return to the office.
Remote and hybrid work has a positive impact on productivity, transport, infrastructure, regional development, local economies, family life, and staff retention.
To fight to protect remote and hybrid working, make sure you use your vote. Check your emails for your ballot.
The Evidence Is Clear.
We have extensive data from both workers and managers that remote and hybrid working is good for organisations and companies, as well as employee well-being.
It essentially allows for us to do the same work we always have, while improving our lives, saving money, and protecting the environment.
69% of Fórsa members said they prefer remote work because it makes them more productive. And managers agree. They reported fewer problems among remote and hybrid teams than among fully on-site staff. Only 6% of managers reported deadline problems for remote workers, compared with 23% for fully on-site teams
Employees working fully on-site also report poorer workplace culture, morale and motivation than hybrid or remote workers.
And when it comes to staff retention, 7 out of 10 Fórsa members with remote or hybrid arrangements would consider moving position to maintain or improve their current working arrangement.
But not only is it good for the organisation, the benefits for employees have been life-changing for so many.
Remote workers are almost three times more likely to be “very satisfied” with their work/life balance compared to those working fully on-site.
60% of remote and hybrid workers said working from home improved their ability to switch off after work
Three quarters of remote and hybrid workers said that working from home was less stressful than on site working
And in the midst of the ongoing and worsening costs of living crisis, a very clear reason to protect remote work has emerged. 68% of our members say they saved money as a result of remote and hybrid work.
The evidence is clear. Now it’s down to you to use your vote.
