Parents preparing for the back-to-school season can use AI tools like ChatGPT to create stress-free schedules and meal plans tailored to their needs
As families prepare for the back-to-school season, artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT are offering parents new ways to manage busy schedules and streamline daily routines.
Building a family schedule
We tested this prompt: “My first grader catches the bus at 7:40, has swim lessons on Wednesdays, and struggles with transitions in the morning. We want an earlier bedtime and 20 minutes of reading every night. Build a schedule that minimizes stress.”
The AI-created schedule accounted for daily routines and made Wednesday, the day of swim lessons, as consistent as possible to reduce the number of changes the child would need to adapt to.
The program also provided five recommendations to ease morning transitions, including offering two outfit options the night before to reduce decision-making during busy mornings.
Make meal planning easy
Another prompt, “I’m having trouble making healthy meals for my child during the week, when my schedule is busy with work and my child’s after-school activities. Give me different strategies to make sure they are getting nutrition,” produced 10 detailed tips for busy families.
These tips included strategies like “prep once, eat several times,” which involves preparing ingredients for multiple meals on one day, and building meals using a simple formula of a protein, a carb or grain, a fruit or vegetable, and a healthy fat.
Getting better results
The key to using AI effectively is crafting specific prompts. Broad or generic prompts may result in recommendations that parents have already tried, so being detailed is essential to getting the most helpful results.
Parents should also treat AI-generated recommendations as suggestions, review the results, and decide what works best for their family.
