Ala. (WAFF) – Emergency officials confirm one person has died in a structure fire in New Market
First responders were dispatched to the 400 block of Beth Road around 4:15 a.m. after Madison County 911 received reports of a residential fire with multiple occupants potentially inside.
Upon arrival, emergency crews found one adult male suffering from second- and third-degree burns.
Don Webster with HEMSI confirmed he was airlifted to the UAB Burn Center in Birmingham for treatment.
A second individual was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts. According to Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill, the victim is an adult woman.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending next-of-kin notification.
Emergency officials have shut down the 600 Block of Beth Rd as they work to clear the area.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office Major Crimes, Criminal Investigations, and Crime Scene units are working alongside state fire marshals to determine how the fire started.
