“I am delighted to share our newly published article, following an eight-month journey from submission to publication:
‘Exploring Young Adult Cancer Survivors’ Perspectives on Generative AI Chatbots for Symptom Support’
In this study, we explored the perspectives of 18 young adult cancer survivors on using generative AI chatbots to support the management of persistent symptoms following cancer treatment.
- Survivors wanted AI-generated guidance that was personalized, emotionally supportive, and grounded in credible evidence.
- Accessible, user-centered features – including symptom monitoring, clear communication, and convenient access – were important for encouraging engagement.
- Trust, privacy, transparency, and human oversight were essential conditions for using AI safely in survivorship care.
Participants viewed generative AI as a potentially valuable resource for symptom monitoring, decision support, and emotional reassurance. Importantly, they emphasized that AI should complement – not replace care and communication with healthcare professionals.
These findings can help guide the development of safe, trustworthy, and patient-centered digital interventions that respond to the evolving needs of young adult cancer survivors.
