SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) –A woman riding a scooter was killed Friday morning in a collision on Market Street in Downtown San Francisco, police say.
The crash happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. near Market and 5th streets, close to the Powell Street BART station. The area has been shut down as authorities investigate collision.
The electric stand-up scooter appears to be a private scooter, not a rental scooter. A helmet was also seen on the ground near the crash.
A witness who was also on a scooter told ABC7 Eyewitness News he saw the woman’s tire get caught in one of the train tracks on Market Street and was run over by a box truck.
Police say it was a commercial vehicle that was involved in the collision and police have located the driver.
Police urged people to remain aware while traveling on city streets.
“Operating any vehicle and traveling on our streets, there is always inherent danger,” SFPD officer Robert Rueca said. “There are vehicles and other obstacles on the way. We ask that you maintain awareness in your surroundings and know how to operate any vehicle or how you are crossing any roadway.”
