Subway wants consumers to listen to their inner voice.
That is, their inner voice as played by actor and comedian Will Arnett. In a new marketing campaign launched Monday, Arnett serves as the voice in people’s heads directing them to make better food choices.
In the “Feed Your SUBconscious” campaign, those better choices involve Subway, with its made-to-order menu described as veggie-forward, with lean proteins and good sources of fiber.
It’s a return to health messaging for the brand, once famous for helping former (and disgraced) brand ambassador Jared Fogle lose more than 200 pounds in the early 2000s.
“Most advertising tries to convince people of something. This campaign begins with something they already know,” Jeff Klein, Subway’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement. “They know when they’re settling for a meal they do not really want and when lunch is about to become an afternoon regret. Feed Your SUBconscious gives that instinct a voice, with Will Arnett reminding people that Subway offers satisfying, freshly prepared food, made exactly how they want it, with value that makes the choice even easier.”
Playing the inner voice across several characters, Arnett brings a straight-talking tone, arguing, “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll listen to me, because I AM you!”
