(InvestigateTV) — Artificial intelligence is reshaping job opportunities well beyond major tech hubs, and workers who build relevant AI skills may have an advantage regardless of where they live.
According to the job search engine Indeed, about one in 20 job postings now mention AI, but fewer than one in 100 job searches are actually looking for those roles. Priya Rathod, a workplace trends editor at Indeed, said that gap means workers in fields like healthcare, insurance, manufacturing and logistics who develop AI skills could stand out.
Rathod said companies are not expecting candidates to be experts in every AI tool available.
“Companies are looking for adaptability when it relates to AI, so what that means is they’re not looking for you to boil the ocean and know every AI tool,” Rathod said. “They’re looking for you to have familiarity with AI tools and that you know the ones that have relevance in your industry and that you’ve had some experience with them.”
Rathod said job seekers should highlight any experience with AI tools directly on their resume, including completed courses, specific programs they have used and how AI factors into their everyday work.
“We did a study and we looked at engineers using AI tools, and it saved them up to four hours a week,” Rathod said. “It is saving people time right now. And I think that for those that are intimidated by AI, start with it in things like job search. Use AI tools in the job search, and that’s something you can talk about in an interview.”
Rathod said job applications should be tailored to each specific role, with clear detail about which AI tools were used and the measurable impact they had. Keeping public profiles — including an Indeed profile — up to date also matters. According to Indeed, job seekers who do so are 82% more likely to be contacted directly by an employer.
