Two years later many NDOT audit questions still not resolved
Reno, NEV —A 2024 audit of NDOT’s stockpile system uncovered a number of accountability questions after $25 million in bookkeeping discrepancies were identified as well as thousands of dollars in tire invoices that were not correctly entered into the system.
The audit also found employees using state time and resources to work on their own vehicles and improper use of state vehicles by someone in the Director’s office. The person in the Director’s office was never identified.
Now, nearly two years later, Legislative Auditor Daniel Crossman confirms seven items from that audit are still not fully resolved. Crossman points out the Audit Subcommittee made up of state lawmakers has yet to sign off on the entire audit.
NDOT points out some changes have been made including a new computer system to better track supplies. NDOT spokesperson Meg Ragonese says all of the items listed in the audit should be addressed and resolved by the end of 2026.
Governor Joe Lombardo oversees the agency as chair of the NDOT Board.
It is up to the Nevada Legislative Audit Subcommittee to address the concerns raised in the audit, ask any questions and make any recommendations.
After each item is considered to be adequately addressed, the Legislative Auditor can sign-off on the audit. Again, nearly two full years after the audit was released, that still hasn’t happened.
Crossman says each audit is different and he points out there is no set timeline to have them completed.
