Tripura Chief Secretary emphasizes importance of cybersecurity in digital governance
Tripura Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha on Tuesday emphasized the critical importance of cybersecurity in the era of digital governance.
He highlighted that the rapid expansion of e-Governance initiatives and Digital Public Infrastructure has led to the generation and processing of vast volumes of sensitive citizen and institutional data, making cybersecurity a key governance priority.
He was speaking at the state-level consultative workshop “Strengthening Cyber Security Frameworks for State Data” at Prajna Bhavan, Agartala.
The Chief Secretary further stressed the need for continuous vigilance, robust security mechanisms, institutional preparedness, and capacity building to safeguard critical digital assets and ensure uninterrupted delivery of public services.
The workshop was organized by the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Tripura in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), Government of India.
Anurag, Director General of Police & HoPF, Tripura, R.K. Samal, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF, Jeya Ragul Geshan B (IFS), Director, Information Technology and other distinguished senior officials from various Government Departments, representatives from NeGD, cybersecurity professionals from technical agencies and technical institutes from New Generation Innovation Network (NGIN) were present.
The workshop was held as part of the Government of India’s ongoing initiative to strengthen cybersecurity preparedness across States and Union Territories.
The discussions highlighted Tripura’s notable achievements in advancing digital governance in line with the vision of Digital India.
Guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on building secure and trusted digital ecosystems, enhancing cyber resilience, and protecting citizen data, the State has consistently strengthened its digital infrastructure, cybersecurity framework, and digital public service delivery ecosystem, according to a press release.
Officials said, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, and the continuous guidance of Minister for Information Technology Pranajit Singha Roy, Tripura has emerged as one of the leading digital governance performers in the North-Eastern Region.
The State has achieved several significant milestones, including implementation of eOffice up to the Gram Panchayat level, making Tripura the first State in the country to achieve such extensive paperless governance coverage.
Other key initiatives include modernization of the Tripura State Data Centre (TSDC), establishment of the Tripura Security Operations Centre (TSOC), expansion of SWAN and HSWAN connectivity, implementation of Bharat Net across rural areas, and deployment of multiple citizen-centric digital platforms and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPT) initiatives.
The workshop forms part of a structured national consultative process being undertaken by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), for strengthening cybersecurity frameworks protecting State data and digital infrastructure. The consultative exercise will culminate in a National Departmental Summit proposed to be held in August 2026.
Presenting an overview of Tripura’s cybersecurity ecosystem, the Director, Information Technology, outlined the State’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cyber resilience across government ICT infrastructure.
He highlighted the establishment of Tripura Security Operations Centre (TSOC) for continuous monitoring and protection of critical government digital assets, implementation of Tripura Cyber Security Policy, 2025 (TCSP 2.0) along with significant upgrades undertaken in TSDC and network infrastructure.
The Director emphasized that cybersecurity is no longer merely a technology concern but a governance imperative requiring coordinated action across departments, continuous risk assessments, legacy system modernization, adoption of secure-by-design principles, implementation of zero-trust architecture, data protection measures, and sustained capacity building.
He expressed confidence that the workshop would generate actionable recommendations to further strengthen Tripura’s cyber resilience and contribute meaningfully to the development of a national framework for securing State data.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for Government Departments and technical stakeholders to assess the State’s current cybersecurity preparedness, identify institutional and technical gaps, discuss emerging cyber threats, and formulate actionable recommendations to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of the State.
The deliberations and recommendations emerging from the workshop will be consolidated and shared with NeGD as Tripura’s contribution towards the formulation of a comprehensive national framework for strengthening cybersecurity of State data.
The workshop is expected to enhance inter-departmental coordination, strengthen cybersecurity awareness, support informed decision-making, and contribute towards building a secure, resilient, and future-ready digital governance ecosystem in Tripura.
As the State continues to expand its digital governance landscape, the Government of Tripura remains committed to adopt a proactive and coordinated approach to cybersecurity, ensuring the protection of citizen data, critical digital infrastructure, and public services while fostering a secure and trusted digital environment for all, the press note said.
