LAKE LURE, N.C. (WLOS) —A Lake Lure business owner says the town is terminating its lease.
The owner says they have around 50 vendors selling products there, so terminating this lease would also affect them.
“If we lose this, you not just put our 24 employees out of business, but you put another 50 small businesses; you’ve cut into their revenue or cut them out completely,” Lured Market & Grill owner Paul Brock said.
The lease termination would affect the market location at Lured Market & Grill.

Brock posted about it on the business’s Facebook page, which was met with a multitude of comments from the community and notice to News 13.
“They have provided a sense of community here and why anyone would want to see a business in a small town like this that’s a tourist attraction fail instead of succeed is kind of confusing,” Lake Lure resident Dino DeAngelis said.
The Town of Lake Lure released a statement to News 13 that says in part, “In order to maintain the integrity of the Judicial process, the Town of Lake Lure does not comment on pending litigation and directs you to the Motion to Dismiss, Answer, and Counterclaimfiled on August 5th.”
He and his partner Maureen Bay say Brock’s business played a huge role in the town’s Helene recovery.
“They fed residents, workers; they fed FEMA,” said Bay
“They opened up these doors almost like a sanctuary and welcomed everyone in,” said DeAngelis.
The Facebook post explains that the notice of termination comes amid a lawsuit between Lured Market & Grill and the Town of Lake Lure over whether a boathouse became part of the business’s premises after police operations moved.
“We never really wanted to fight with the town. We never wanted to have to do this. We love this community, but sometimes when a bully pushes you into the corner, you’ve got to fight back,” said Brock.

While the termination order is for Friday, August 21, the Lured Market & Grill owner says they don’t plan to move out, anticipating the town to file for eviction next week.
Brock says he’s overwhelmed by the community support and that people can help by reaching out to town leaders. He says there will be an opportunity to do that at the town’s planning meeting on Monday.
