Kan. (WIBW) – A local nonprofit thrift store is set to close its doors soon, yet it still plans on serving the community in a different way
The Giving Tree Topeka Inc., a local thrift store that accepts donations and sells items at affordable prices, announced on Facebook Friday that it will be closing its doors to the public on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m.
The closure is due to the store’s inability to sustain the costs of operations. In a Facebook post, the store’s leadership stated: “Even with steady sales and generous community support, the cost of operating a store of this size has become more than we can sustain. Payroll alone has accounted for approximately three-quarters of our sales revenue, before paying rent, utilities, our loan, and other operating expenses.”
The Giving Tree Topeka Inc.’s final shopping days will be Monday, Nov. 2 through Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The store will have a blowout sale throughout its last week. Everything will be 50% off.
Though the thrift store will be closing, the community can continue helping the team continue to make a difference.
Giving Tree Auctions, LLC, a separate business from Giving Tree Topeka Inc., will take over the space and open to the public twice a month on second Saturday weekends.
Shopping will move online through auctions, and items will be available for pickup at the store.
Following the nonprofit thrift store’s closure, donations will be accepted by Giving Tree Auctions, LLC.
Effective immediately, donation hours will be Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Leadership said further details on the new auction business will be posted next week. Stay updated HERE.
The store’s leadership said that, though it is closing, they are grateful to the community for their support and donations.
The store is located at 3343 SW Topeka Blvd.
