Success often looks like the result of one big decision. In fact, behind the achievements of an entrepreneur, there is a simple routine that is done repeatedly, ranging from setting priorities, continuing to learn, maintaining relationships, staying consistent, to appreciating small progress
This habit may seem trivial if it is only done once. However, when it becomes part of a routine, positive habits can form a more directed work pattern and help an individual survive when faced with various business challenges.
Ahead of Global Entrepreneur Day, which is celebrated every August 21, these daily habits are again relevant to pay attention to. Moreover, the world of entrepreneurship is now increasingly dynamic.
Technological developments, changes in consumer behavior, and the emergence of various new business models make entrepreneurs need to continue to adapt.
Oktrianto Wahyu Jatmiko, Director & General Manager of Herbalife Indonesia, sees entrepreneurship today is growing. Many people are starting to turn their interests and expertise into business opportunities, while having different definitions of success according to personal goals.
“Optimism alone is not enough to build a thriving and sustainable business. Successful entrepreneurs, whether they run large-scale companies or manage side businesses, are those who are able to translate big goals into discipline that is carried out every day,” said Oktrianto.
So, what are the habits that can help entrepreneurs build long-term success?
1. Determine the priorities before starting the day
The amount of work that must be completed can make an entrepreneur easily lose focus. Therefore, starting the day with a clear goal is one of the important habits.
Instead of immediately responding to various messages and work that comes in, entrepreneurs can first determine the most important things to be completed. A simple way such as making a priority list can help daily activities to remain focused.
Oktrianto said that a number of leaders who worked with him in various regions of Indonesia had the habit of reviewing their goals in the morning. They also took the time to communicate with clients, partners, and colleagues to build momentum from the start of the activity.
“When you start the day with a clear goal, every action, no matter how small, will bring you closer to the goal you want to achieve. For example, write down the three main priorities before opening the laptop and commit to completing them before noon,” added Oktrianto.
The business world never stops changing. What is effective today does not necessarily provide the same results in the future. This condition makes the ability to continue to learn increasingly important.
Entrepreneurs can develop knowledge through various ways, ranging from attending training, reading, discussing with mentors, to finding new approaches in serving customers.
Curiosity also helps a person see problems from a different perspective. Challenges that were initially considered as obstacles can become an opportunity to find new ideas or ways of working.
Learning habits do not always have to be done for a long time. Providing about 30 minutes regularly every week to read, listen to materials, or learn new skills can be a simple step to keep abilities growing.
3. Prioritize relationships, not just transactions
Business is ultimately built by human relationships. Customers, partners, and team members are not only part of business activities, but also have a role in shaping the sustainability of a business.
Therefore, entrepreneurs need to build communication based on concern and trust. Listening to customer needs, paying attention to the team, and maintaining communication with partners can be an investment whose value grows over time.
Oktrianto menilai hubungan yang kuat dapat berkembang menjadi komunitas yang saling mendukung.
“Take a few minutes to contact three people, such as clients, partners, or colleagues, to ask for news and re-establish communication. Simple conversations can strengthen relationships and show others that we support them,” explained Oktrianto.
4. Keep moving even though the business faces challenges
Business journeys almost never go straight. Sales can slow down, strategies can fail, even an entrepreneur can experience doubts about the decisions made.
In such a situation, consistency is the differentiator. Consistency does not mean working continuously without a break, but rather keeping the commitment and keeping the pace so that it does not stop when the results are not visible.
Business progress is not always in the form of major achievements. Communication with potential customers, meetings with partners, completion of work, to minor improvements in business processes are part of the development.
Recording activities and achievements periodically can help entrepreneurs see progress more objectively.
Orientation towards the target is indeed important for entrepreneurs. However, focusing too much on the final goal can make various small achievements during the journey ignored.
In fact, acknowledging progress can help maintain motivation. Achievements such as successfully completing a productive week, getting new customers, finding solutions to problems, or mastering new skills are worthy of evaluation and appreciation.
One simple way is to reflect every weekend by recording one achievement and one lesson learned. This habit helps entrepreneurs see the business journey more holistically and makes every experience a learning material.
The character of entrepreneurs today is increasingly diverse. Some build large companies, develop side businesses, or turn hobbies into aapt and maintain positive habits remains an important capital
Oktrianto said certain habits continue to be seen in entrepreneurs who are able to maintain long-term growth.
“I see the same habits driving long-term success among the entrepreneurs I meet and work with every day. They prove that consistency, curiosity, and the ability to build relationships are not just business strategies, but the foundation for long-term growth,” concluded Oktrianto.
